Religion, it seems to me, has nothing whatsoever to do with any belief, with any priest, with any church or so-called sacred book. We need to employ a secular approach to ethics, secular in the Indian sense of respecting all religious traditions and even the views of non-believers in an unbiased way. If we can do that there is a real prospect of making this 21st century an era of peace and compassion.
Yet for all that, there is nothing in me of a founder of a religion--religions are affairs of the rabble; I find it necessary to wash my hands after I have come into contact with religious people.
